The streets of Addis Ababa witnessed a truly absurd moment this Monday Nov 17 as two donkeys were reportedly arrested and held for a whopping 30 hours for the high crime of eating grass in a street!

The innocent incident occurred near the area designated for the ኮሊደር ልማት (Collider Development) project. Apparently, the two long eared laborers saw a patch of tasty green and simply couldn't resist. Officials, seemingly intent on strictly enforcing rules around the new infrastructure zone, took the unusual step of detaining the hungry herbivores.

Imagine the booking process! The donkeys, who often carry heavy loads and are vital to many local businesses, found themselves behind temporary bars, presumably pondering their life choices and the deliciousness of forbidden forage.

Social media exploded with laughter and confusion under the hashtag #FreeTheDonkeys. People questioned the bizarre priorities of an enforcement action against animals that were just trying to eat. "Arresting a donkey for eating grass is the most expensive way to feed it!" one commenter quipped.
