After years of defining Ethiopia’s modern soundscape with his signature Afro-fusion and reggae rhythms, Sami Dan unveiled his highly anticipated project, “Lelagnaw Melke” (“My Other Look”) November 18. The album was formally launched at the Monarch View Hotel amidst a gathering of industry professionals, media, and music enthusiasts who contributed to the work. This 11-track collection marks a bold return for the artist, serving as both a musical reinvention and a profound cultural statement.

The title "Lelagnaw Melke" immediately signals the artist’s intent to showcase his musical breadth beyond his established repertoire. When addressing the media about his inspiration, Sami Dan emphasized his desire for versatility. “I wanted to show my other musical side,” he explained. “People know me mostly for Afro-fusion and reggae, but I can also sing in many other genres.” The album delivers on this promise by expertly weaving together various Ethiopian regional sounds and dialects, featuring tracks such as "Muna" (Wollo), "Dege" (Guragigna), "Aya Gondere" (Gondar), and "Gelaana / Baher" (Oromo), offering listeners a truly comprehensive sonic journey across the nation.

The project’s ambitions, however, extend far beyond musical experimentation; it serves as an emotional reflection on national identity and unity. Sami Dan articulated that the album is rooted in his personal experience of growing up immersed in diverse cultures. He noted, “I don’t define myself by a single ethnicity. I am part of all of them that’s who we are as Ethiopians. This album expresses that unity, my other personality, and my ability to connect with all the heritages of my country.”

This powerful message is the beating heart of "Lelagnaw Melke," expressing his profound connection to the collective heritage of Ethiopia.

Adding to its unique nature, "Lelagnaw Melke" is presented as a comprehensive visual experience: a full video album. Out of the total 11 tracks, seven are accompanied by full-length, high-production video clips, with the remaining four featuring lyric videos. The high-level cinematography, meticulous location selection, and authentic costuming clearly demonstrate Sami Dan's deep personal commitment to delivering his artistic vision. He concluded the launch by extending thanks to his colleagues and collaborators for making the elaborate, high-quality project possible.

By successfully blending diverse genres with a unifying message, Sami Dan has not only presented his “other look” but also delivered an album that is both profoundly reflective and highly energetic, encouraging fans to both contemplate its meaning and vibe with the music. "Lelagnaw Melke" is set to cement its place as a significant and sophisticated release in contemporary Ethiopian music.
