In a glamorous night of music, traditional pageantry, and high-energy performances, Sinbone Mekonnen was crowned Miss Tourism Oromia 2025, taking the title that turns its holder into one of the region’s top cultural and tourism ambassadors.

The newly crowned queen was awarded a cash prize reported at 350,000ETB, a sum social-media posts covering the event say accompanies the title alongside an ambassadorial role for Oromia’s tourism initiatives.  Sinbone accepted the crown in a ceremony that paid homage to Oromo culture — complete with traditional dress segments, live music, and a runway that showcased the region’s vibrant textile and fashion heritage. According to coverage shared by the event’s accounts, she was crowned by outgoing titleholder Derartu Tesfaye, who passed on the responsibilities of the role.

In the heart of Ethiopia, where vibrant traditions meet breathtaking landscapes, Miss Tourism Oromia emerges as more than just a beauty queen — she is a cultural ambassador, storyteller, and advocate for sustainable tourism across the Oromia region. Representing the largest and one of the most culturally rich regions of Ethiopia, Miss Tourism Oromia carries the mantle of promoting Oromia’s hidden treasures — from the rolling green hills of Bale to the rhythmic melodies of the Borana and the ancient rituals of the Oromo Gadaa system, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Miss Tourism Oromia platform is built on the belief that beauty and purpose can coexist. Contestants are not only judged by their poise and presence but also by their commitment to preserving culture, empowering communities, and promoting eco-friendly tourism. The crown symbolizes responsibility — a call to protect Oromia’s natural wonders. Beyond showcasing Ethiopia’s tourism potential, the pageant empowers young Oromo women to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers. Through cultural exchange programs, environmental campaigns, and charity projects, Miss Tourism Oromia inspires a generation to celebrate their roots while embracing progress.
