Addis Ababa felt the groove on October 18, 2025, as Arada delivered another unforgettable night with “Strictly Soul” at the elegant IVY Lounge (Marriott). The event brought together lovers of soul, R&B, and good vibes for an evening that blended nostalgia, rhythm, and sophistication in true Addis style.

Strictly Soul began during the 2020 global lockdowns as an Instagram live stream, founded by DJ Akio Kawahito (aka Akio) in South Africa.  The concept was simple but powerful: bring lovers of real R&B and soul together under one banner, celebrating every variation of the genre — from old-school classics to neo-soul, trap-soul, future beats and Afrobeats.

The night was headlined by DJ AKIO, who filled the room with rich, soulful beats that kept the crowd moving from start to finish. Joining him were DJ Jazzy Dave, DJ Josh, and Fort Noks from South Africa, each adding their unique touch to the soundscape. Together, they created a musical journey that moved seamlessly between classic soul, modern R&B, and Afro-infused remixes that had everyone on their feet.

The event was hosted by Milu, whose charm and energy kept the crowd engaged throughout the night. Guests danced, mingled, and enjoyed an atmosphere that felt both intimate and electric — the perfect balance of class and fun.

Running from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM, “Strictly Soul” transformed IVY Lounge into a hub of style and sound. Attendees came dressed to impress, filling the venue with laughter, movement, and the warmth of shared musical passion.

With tickets ranging from ETB 800 to ETB 2,500, the event attracted a diverse and enthusiastic crowd, from die-hard soul fans to newcomers curious about Addis Ababa’s evolving nightlife.

Organized by Dari Events in collaboration with Arada, “Strictly Soul” once again proved that Addis Ababa knows how to celebrate music with elegance and authenticity. It was more than a party — it was a night of rhythm, connection, and pure soul.

The arrival of Strictly Soul in Addis Ababa marked a defining moment for the city’s growing music and nightlife scene. As part of Africa’s biggest R&B link-up, the event brought something Addis hadn’t seen before — a world-class experience dedicated purely to the smooth, emotional, and timeless sound of R&B and soul.

With the warmth of the crowd, the smooth flow of the sets, and the unmistakable feeling of unity, Strictly Soul in Addis Ababa left behind more than memories — it sparked a new cultural wave. It proved that soul music has a home in Ethiopia too, and that Addis is ready for more.

As the last notes faded and the city lights dimmed, one thing was clear: the soul movement has arrived — and Addis Ababa is now officially part of it.
